A friend with a Forest

Our adventure to Nature's Valley was the highlight of my week.

Nature's Valley lies between the Salt River, the foothills of the Tsitsikamma Mountains, the Indian Ocean and the Groot River lagoon.

Hidden in the indigenous forest on the edge of this little village is a cabin where Fiona Powrie welcomed us.

She invited us to come roam her forest and selvage saplings .

Every place we walked there was a new plant I discovered. With every new plant I discovered a language I still need to learn, Latin.

We spent the day taking a walk to the beach to see an example of an Easten Cape coastal tree line. This will be a typical tree line that will work in our area with the wind and soil composition.

This day was not just a forest adventure and a beautiful discovery, but a day I spent with someone who is extremely passionate and knowledgeable about all of creation. The Latin words don't even justify the depth of insight.

What a privilege to sit at her feet (Fiona) and learn, because the road she walked with nature is who she is.

What a privilege.
